Heritage Blend
Each bottle of Tullamore Dew Heritage Blend is a collector's whiskey. 20 casks of the first blending were laid down in August 2000 to commemorate the opening of the Tullamore Dew Heritage Centre in Tullamore, County Offaly. Each bottle from this first blending came with its own individually numbered certificate.
Almost immediately, the Tullamore Dew Heritage won the trophy for best Irish Whiskey in 2001. It recently won a Gold medal at the 2006 International Wine & Spirit Competition. Although there is no age statement to this whiskey, the whiskeys are about 8 years old on average, with a high proportion of pot still whiskey in the blend. However the distinctive aspect to the Heritage Blend is that, prior to bottling, the blend is re-casked into Bourbon barrels for 6-9 months for further finishing – this adds complexity and roundness to the flavour. It has a fragrant, vaguely citrus back note.
This rich, mellow flavoured whiskey is a connoisseur's delight: a fresh, malty, woody nose leads to a medium bodied, crisp palate, with complex flavours of malt and spice, wood and vanilla, flavours that can only come from long ageing in select casks. This very special and exclusive edition of Tullamore Dew is available at the Heritage Centre and some exclusive whiskey specialist stores.
